Ford plant workers: If you had any vacation plans you might want to reschedule.
The Detroit automaker announced on Tuesday plans to make 40,000 additional vehicles this summer by cutting back on annual shutdowns at its North American facilities.
Six assembly plants and 10 supporting plants will only be closed one week instead of two this summer, according to Ford.
"To meet surging customer demand for our top-selling trucks and utilities, we are continuing to run our North American facilities during the traditional two-week summer shutdown in order to add close to 40,000 units," said Bruce Hettle, Ford vice president, North America Manufacturing in a media statement.
The news is important since these plants are responsible for some of Ford's most popular rides like the F-150 pickup and Ford Edge.
Ford's Dearborn Truck and Kansas City Stamping plant are among the facilities taking a reduced break this summer to make more vehicles, according to Ford.

"Six of our assembly plants will build for an additional week in order to ensure we're getting more of our vehicles into dealerships," Hettle added.
Ford's announcement came the same day as the launch of a new Sync infotainment system called "Sync 3," which will be available this summer for the 2016 Ford Escape and Fiesta vehicles.
