2016 Chevrolet Volt Online Configurator Goes Live

An online configurator for the 2016 Chevrolet Volt has gone live to give car buyers the chance to test out a number of color and trim options before placing their official order.

The 2016 Volt, which debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, is available in two trim levels, including the Volt LT and LTZ. Orders can only be placed in California for the time being, according to General Motors.

As we reported earlier this month, the new Volt is about $1,000 cheaper than the current ride, meaning it'll be easier than ever before to own the plug-in hybrid.

Pricing hasn't been listed for the 2016 Volt LTZ yet, but the base Volt LT will go for $33,995, including destination fees. In comparison, the 2015 ride is sold for $35,110.

Those who choose the higher level option will receive updated features like wireless device charging, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an improved audio system, according to GM.

Customers can pick from seven exterior colors, like Mosaic Black, Kinetic Blue, along with five different interior options.

If you don't live in California you'll have to wait at least a couple months to place an order for a new Volt. Dealers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont can't take orders for 2016 Volts until August 27.

Reservations for the rest of the U.S. will open officially on October 1 and production on the new Volts will begin around August. The automaker said it will shut down its Hamtramck facility for six weeks in order to prepare for production.

Official EPA estimates for the 2016 Volt have not been listed yet, but expect an all-electric driving range of around 50 miles a single charge.
