Defroster, ECU Recall: Mitsubishi Recalls 130,000 Lancer and Outlander Vehicles Built Between 2009 and 2011

The issue:

Mitsubishi has launched two separate recalls involving about 130,000 vehicles made between 2009 and 2011, according to the Associated Press.

The first recall involves faulty blower motors that might cause the windshield defrosters not to work properly in 2009-2011 Lancer, 2010-2011 Lancer Sportback, 2010-2011 Lancer Evolution and 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles.

The second recall is to fix unstable electronic control units that could cause windshield wipers, headlights and taillights not to work in 2009-2010 Outlander, 2009-2010 Lancer, 2010 Lancer Sportback and 2010 Lancer Evolution.

The Fix:

Dealers are being told to replace both defective blower motors and ECUs, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

The Japanese automaker has not received any reports of injuries or accidents linked to either issue yet.

Recall Date:

An official recall date has not been announced by Mitsubishi. A notification schedule has not been set yet for either recall, but owners can expect to receive their recall notices within the next couple of months.

Number of Models Affected:

The first recall involves approximately 76,958 vehicles, mainly in North America. The approximate amount of units affected by the second recall is 53,396, mainly in North America.
