1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 Concept Heads to Dragone Auction (PHOTOS)

A rare 1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 will be up for auction later on this month in Connecticut and we are a little worried the concept won't sell for all its worth. Not because the car isn't incredible, but because not many people know the Banshee ever existed.

The two-seat Banshee was proposed in 1963 by Pontiac's engineering staff as a car that could take on the recently released Ford Mustang. Pontiac Motor Division Head John Delorean, yes, that John Delorean, liked the idea and told his staff to create some concepts.

As you can see, the body for the Banshee is unlike anything else, besides maybe the Corvair Monza GT, which served as the inspiration for the coupe, according to Dragone Classic Motorcars.

Just four Banshees were made by the GM unit as the car never reached the production stage. We have no clue why, but now just two of them are left standing, a silver coupe and an equally unique white convertible.

The silver Banshee No. 1 is the ride up for grabs later this month, and it features the same exact parts from 50 years ago.

"The chance to own the one and only edition of this fabulous design concept is truly a collector's dream," said Dragone Classic Motorcars about the car. "For the collector of the ultra-rare, the Banshee is a car that has no equal."

Features include an inline six-engine, silver finish, Redline tires red leather bucket seats and a dashboard that will make driving the rare ride seem like flying an airplane.

Banshee No. 1 also comes with an AM push button radio for all you AM/FM listeners fans out there.

Dragone Classic Motorcars expects the ride to go for about $600,000 to $650,000, and we think it's worth every penny.

The Banshee will be up for sale during Dragone Classic Motorcars' 2015 Greenwich Car Event Weekend Auction on May 30. Check out the Greenwich event page to register for bidding.
