Volkswagen’s Car-Net App Syncs Apple Watches With Popular Rides

Volkswagen is looking to capitalize on the Apple Watch craze by making its "Car-Net" app available for users of the new device to sync with an assortment of popular VW rides.

The app was originally released by VW to give owners the chance to control vehicle functions and information while they're away from their cars. Now they'll be able to unlock doors, check if windows are closed and monitor fuel or battery levels from their wrist, according to Volkswagen.

"These high-tech features, available through the Car-Net app for Apple Watch, are paving the way to Volkswagen's future of connected vehicles," said Abdallah Shanti, Executive Vice President and Group Chief Information Officer for Region Americas, in a company statement.

Car-Net is also capable of finding cars in a parking lots by offering VW owners turn-by-turn directions. If you still have trouble finding your car you can use the app to flash your vehicle's lights or to honk the horn. Just try to save those two functions for emergency purposes only, not every time you want to prank your friends, okay?

The German automaker said the app will be available for download on all Apple Watch devices, select 2014 VW vehicles, like the latest CC, Jetta, and Passat and the 2015 Golf, Golf SportWagen, and e-Golf vehicles.

Porsche, Tesla, and BMW have also recently released their own apps for Apple's latest device, which could be an indication that automakers around the world feel the Apple Watch is here to stay.
