Ford Expands Door Latch Recall to Cover 546,000 Fiestas, Fusions and Lincoln MKZs

The Issue:

Ford has expanded a recall from earlier this week involving Fiesta, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles made between November 2009 and May 2013 over door latch issues.

The door latches in these vehicles could possibly contain faulty pawl spring tabs which could cause doors to open inadvertently while a vehicle is in motion.

The Fix:

Ford and Lincoln dealers are being asked to replace all door latches, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

So far, two injuries have been reported as a result of unlatched doors bouncing back when an owner tried to close it along with one report of an accident. The alleged accident took place when an unlatched door opened and hit a vehicle as a driver was pulling into a parking spot.

Recall Date:

The recall is expected to begin on June 1. Owners should start receiving notices in the mail later on this month.

Number of Models Affected:

Approximately 545,906 vehicles are now affected by the recall, including 456,440 found in the U.S. and its territories, 50,681 in Canada and 38,785 in Mexico.

Who to call?

To reach Ford's customer service line call 1-866-436-7332. Lincoln's customer service number is 1-800-521-4140.
