2016 Chevrolet Camaro Design Teased Before May 16 Debut (PHOTOS)

Chevrolet decided to tease its upcoming 2016 Camaro once again on Thursday with just two weeks remaining until the sports car finally debuts.

The two photos released by the GM unit of the upcoming pony car shows a more "athletic" rear end than the current Generation 5 Camaro, along with an impressive aluminum hood design that should make fans happy.

"The Camaro went to the gym and came out with a lithe, more athletic physique for the sixth generation," said Ed Welburn, vice president, GM Global Design, according to General Motors. "It's a more expressive evolution of the Camaro's iconic character - and one that complements its leaner size and sharper reflexes."

So far we know the Gen 6 will feature a more rigid body structure to make the ride 28 percent "stiffer" than the Gen 6 and more than 70 percent of the components found on the 2016 model will be brand new.

The Camaro will 200 pounds lighter than the current model and GM's 6.2-liter V-8 will replace the LS3 V-8 found in the Camaro SS, according to the Detroit automaker.

Chevy is hosting a big Camaro unveiling party on May 16 at Detroit's Belle Isle Park. While the debut is open to the public, GM reached full capacity just 8 hours after the premiere event was announced, according to the 2016 Camaro website.

We expect the 2016 Camaro to reach dealerships sometime this fall and we should have pricing and official specs after the big unveiling next month so stay tuned.
