2016 Lexus ES Debuts: 2015 Shanghai Auto Show

Lexus introduced its 2016 ES on Monday at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show with new colors and LED headlights.

While we should be excited about the unveiling, all we can do is think about how great it would be to just rip the new spindle grille right off the improved fascia instead.

What is it?

For the new ES, designers were tasked with the challenge of taking the ES to "the next level of elegance and progressive luxury," according to Lexus.

Apparently that meant new headlights and fog lamps, as ES is way too similar to the 2015 ES, inside and out.

What's inside?

The biggest change we noticed inside the ES is a new 4-inch TFT touch screen, which lets occupants access music and directions on the go. Oh, the Remote Touch Interface now comes with not one "Enter" button on the controller, but two!

Engine options:

To our disappointment, the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder heading to places like China and Taiwan won't be available for the U.S. version. Darn.

So far Lexus has confirmed that the U.S. version will be offered with the 3.5-liter V-6 instead along with a "gasoline-electric hybrid powerplant" option.

What we like:

The modified foglamps were a great touch, though we also like those rectangular tailpipes on the ES 350.

What we don't like:

The wider spindle grille on the front fascia. Just look at it. Bleck.

Can I buy it?

Yes, but not yet. The Lexus ES will reach U.S. dealerships in exterior colors like "Nightfall Mica" and "Eminent White Pearl" sometime in the fourth quarter, according to Edmunds.

Pricing and fuel economy estimates has not been announced yet, so stay tuned.
