2016 Buick Verano Sports Sedan Unveiled: 2015 Shanghai Auto Show

General Motors' Shanghai Gala Night was jam-packed with debuts this weekend, from the new Cadillac CT6 sedan to the futuristic Chevy FNR, just to name a few. The automaker also found time to introduce the new Buick Verano sports sedan, which will be on hand all week during the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.

What is it?

GM described the new Vernao as a "mid-range passenger car" for those who "value a personal and dynamic driving experience," which means it will sit right above the Buick Excelle and Excelle GT.

The Verano gets its muscle from a 1.5-liter SIDI EcoTech four-cylinder engine, the most powerful EcoTec available. We don't know for sure yet if the engine will be matted to the new-generation seven-speed DCG transmission in the U.S., which GM "adapted specifically for China." If so, it'll help make 166 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque.

No interior specs have been mentioned yet by the Detroit automaker, so expect more details on the U.S. Buick Verano later on this year.

What's interesting?

The waterfall grille is nice, but we like how Buick was able to "capture the essence" of the Aventir concept by strapping on Avenir-style wing-shaped headlights and LED running lights to the front and LED taillights on the rear.

Can I buy it?

You can't buy the 2016 Buick Verano yet, but unlike the aforementioned Chevrolet FNR, this car will eventually reach U.S. shores, perhaps with a slightly altered design. China will see the car during the second of 2015, though it will be called the 2016 Buick Wei Lang, according to GM Authority.
