2015 Chevrolet Camaro COPO 550-HP Race Car Headed to Charity Auction

Camaro fans will be happy to learn that Chevrolet is planning on selling the first 2015 COPO Camaro, introduced at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last year, during an upcoming Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction.

The hand-built No. 001 Camaro was designed to "dominate Stock Eliminatory drag racing," which probably explains why its powered by a 350-cubic-inch LSX-based V8 racing engine with a 2.9-liter 555-hp Whipple supercharger and 3-speed automatic transmission, according to Barrett-Jackson.

Here's the best part: 100 percent of the winning bid will go towards the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, a non-profit organization that provides disabled vets the chance to receive training and take part in marathons.

Chevrolet U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, Jim Campbell, said in a press statement that the automaker is "excited" that the sale of the first 2015 Chevy COPO Camaro is going to help out a "worthy organization."

COPO No. 1 features an "Abalone White" exterior with matte gray and orange accents and its exclusive "2015COPO001" serial number.

If you needed more incentive to place a bid, just 69 will be made this year before the COPO is phased out to make room for the arrival of the next Camaro, according to a GM press release.

We have no idea how much the Camaro will fetch at this weekend's auction, but there's a good chance it could go for more than $500,000. Last year, the No. 1 2014 COPO Camaro sold for $700,000, according to GM Authority.

Interested buyers will have to wait until April 18 at 5:00 p.m. for the chance to bid on the 2015 COPO at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach.

The auction will broadcasted live on the Velocity Channel so make sure to tune in this weekend to see who takes home the milestone car.
