Porsche 911 Crowned as the 2012 World Performance Car

2012 Porsche 911 has been named the 2012 World Performance Car by Bridgestone Corporation at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.

The competition started with 19 candidates, narrowed down to 10, and then the final three. The two other finalists for the competition, which was announced earlier at the Geneva International Motor Show last month, were Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 and the McLearn MP4-12C. Ultimately, Porsche 911 won the hearts of the panel of judges.

“The all-new Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S have impressed our expert jury with leaps in innovation and risk-taking design choices while at the same time maintaining and improving upon the driving thrills we look for in any Porsche two-door,” commented the judges.

The World Performance Car is selected by 64 distinguished international automotive journalists from twenty five countries around the world. Some of the criteria for the vote include merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance.

“We are honored that the new Porsche 911 S Coupe was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors as the 2012 World Performance Car of the Year,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America about the award.

“Winning the 2012 World Performance Car is excellent validation from a global team of world-class journalists for the work and dedication of everyone at Porsche,” Platen added.

Previous World Performance Car winners were the Ferrari 458 Italia, 2011, the Audi R8 V10, 2010, the Nissan GT-R, 2009, and the Audi R8, 2008.
