Confirmed: Audi RS 3 Sedan is Joining The U.S. Lineup

It's been debated to no end. Will the Audi RS 3 be sold in America? If it does, will it be available as a sedan or the popular hatchback option?

Finally, we have some answers.

Audi of America CEO Scott Keogh announced Wednesday that the high-performance RS 3 compact sedan will reach the U.S. after all, along with Audi's new Q8, according to Automotive News.

Keogh said the RS 3 sedan will join the A3 sedan, A3 e-tron plug-in and S3 sedan in the U.S. lineup, rather than the hatchback option.

"We really, really want the RS 3," Keogh said to Automotive News. "I'm very confident we'll see that car in the market. That's as far as I'm going to go."

Until Wednesday, Audi kept quiet regarding its plans for the RS3 in the U.S., and while Keogh didn't say when the RS 3 would arrive, the news should be enough to keep fans excited for now.

The European RS 3 gets its power from a 367-horsepower 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that helps the hatchback go 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

We expect the MSRP could reach $50,000, though an official base price has not been announced yet.

If it reaches our neck of the woods by 2016, the RS 3 would help Audi compete for sales against similar models like the upcoming Cadillac ATS-V and Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG.

The Q8 meanwhile is a large SUV that looks more like a coupe, and should reach the U.S. around 2017. The 16-foot-long vehicle was greenlit for production in 2014 for America and will start for around $75,000.

"The Q8 looks to be a home run product for the U.S., if you look at its size and where it's going to be positioned," Keogh said. "That is absolutely a car that we will see in the United States."
