Nissan is partnering with SiriusXM to introduce a connected vehicle services program, which will first be made available for the 2016 Nissan Maxima, according to a joint statement released by both companies.
The new program is called "NissanConnect Services," which is designed to cover vehicle health monitoring, remote access services and, of course, vehicle security.
Nissan says the new service will come in three levels for a "variety" of 2016 models, but we don't know which vehicles yet besides the recently-unveiled Maxima.
The three levels include:
-NissanConnect Services: The base package comes with a number of essential services like Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locater and Maintenance Reminders.
-NissanConnect Services Premium: The Premium package comes with everything from the base option along with Remote Start, Remote Door Lock/Unlock and Monitoring Alerts like Valet and Curfew Alert.
-NissanConnect Services Premium Plus: This package adds services to the base and premium options like Assisted Search, Journey Planner and Connected Search.
Customers will also be able to download a number of apps for their infotainment systems, depending on the model and package they choose. Apps include Facebook, Twitter, TripAdvistor, Pandora and iHeartRadio, among others.
The new services were created by the two companies at Nissan's Research Center in Silicon Valley, according to the NissanConnect website.
We expect the service to be similar to those available by other automakers, like Hyundai's "Blue Link" and General Motors' "OnStar," but we'll have to wait and see.
The full-size 2016 Nissan Maxima will be available for $33,235 at Nissan dealerships this summer. Nissan unveiled its new Maxima this week during the 2015 New York International Auto Show.
Pre-sale reservations can be made now for the 2016 Maxima as part of its "Build Yours Now" program. All reservations must be made before June 2, 2015, according to Nissan.
