Apple’s CarPlay is Coming to ‘Every Major Car Brand’

Yesterday Apple introduced a number of new products during its live Spring Forward event in San Francisco. The event was highlighted by the official launch of the Apple Watch and its partnership with HBO that will bring HBO Now to Apple TV in April.

What got us excited though was company CEO Tim Cook announcing that, almost a year to the day after Apple's new CarPlay in-dash connectivity debuted, every major automaker has committed to delivering vehicles with the service built-in.

Companies committed to Apple so far include Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz Toyota and Volkswagen.

Apple's iOS-powered dashboard was created to give drivers a "smarter, safer and more fun" way to use iPhones in their cars. Now "every major car brand" is dedicated to adding the service to future vehicles, Cook said while speaking at Apple's Spring Forward Event.

This is good news for tech and car junkies out there. CarPlay uses both iPhone's Siri technology and a specific vehicle's built-in display to let occupants control music while driving. This means you can pick particular songs or artists and playlists available on iTunes radio, Beats Music or Spotify.

If music isn't your thing the service also lets you make calls, send text messages and look up directions so you never get lost again.

Apple's CarPlay service is available for all iPhone 5 and 6 devices.

Cook did not announce additional information, like timing or what exact vehicles would feature CarPlay at Apple's event so stay tuned for more information.

Apple has sold more than 700 million iPhones since the first device launched back in 2007.
