GM Recalls 67,000 Cadillac ATS Sedans in US, Canada

General Motors has issued a recall for around 67,000 Cadillac ATS models with overly sensitive power sunroof switches.

The compact sports sedans are equipped with power sunroofs that are activated by controls; the roofs can close automatically upon even a slight touch to the non-recessed switches, the Associated Press reported.

GM, which has become increasingly vigilant after its disastrous ignition-switch recall last year, discovered the issue in January while testing a 2016 Cadillac ATS sedan. The recall primarily includes vehicles sold in the United States and Canada.

The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries in connection with the issue. GM has put a stop-sale in force for the model, and repairs were implemented into production.

The recall, which includes sedans from model years 2013 to 2015, will involve dealers replacing a switch trim plate in affected vehicles.

GM's quick move to mend the power sunroof issue reflects the automaker's new focus on safety after the recall of around 2.6 million small cars early last year.

The recall for faulty ignition switches that could turn the vehicle off while driving has been related to 57 deaths so far.

GM has tapped high-profile attorney Kenneth Feinberg to administer a compensation fund for those injured and the families of those killed in GM vehicles. The automaker has set aside an initial $400 million but has not put a cap on how much it will provide in compensation.

The ignition-switch recall appeared to have industry-wide reverberations last year as automakers called for repairs on a record 64 million vehicles in the U.S. The previous recall record was 30.8 million vehicles in 2004.
