Rolls-Royce To Diversify with First Luxury SUV Model

Rolls-Royce has decided to follow the lead of other luxury names by launching its own sport-utility vehicle.

Called the "Everywhere Vehicle," the new Rolls-Royce SUV will compete with models such as the Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, Land Rover Range Rover, and Bentley Bentayga, Automotive News reported.

The upcoming model doesn't yet have a name or a launch schedule, but Rolls-Royce is prepared with a hashtag: "#EffortlessEverywhere."

USA TODAY says the model is likely "years away from deliveries."

So far, the British automaker has described the SUV as "a car that offers the luxury of a Rolls-Royce in a vehicle that can cross any terrain," according to a Rolls-Royce letter quoted by CNNMoney. The new model will be a "a high-bodied car with an all-new aluminum architecture."

Already ushering in the "Everywhere Vehicle" with style, Rolls-Royce sent chauffeurs wearing white gloves and driving Phantoms to deliver the SUV announcement by hand.

Rolls-Royce, which was founded 111 years ago and is renowned for its luxury limousines, sold 4,063 cars in 2014. The company's latest models are the Ghost II, which arrived at dealerships late last year, and the Wraith Coupe, which launched in 2013.

The announcement follows months of rumors that Rolls-Royce would develop its own SUV. The automaker cited discussions with clients as the main influence on its decision, according to Automotive News.
