Chevrolet Unveils Revamped 2016 Equinox: 2015 Chicago Auto Show

Chevrolet took the wraps off the refreshed 2016 Equinox compact sport utility vehicle today at the Chicago Auto Show.

What is it?

The Equinox, which is Chevy's best-selling model after the Silverado, seats five and runs on a standard 2.4-liter engine producing an EPA-estimated 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The LT and LTZ versions are available with a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 301 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque.

What's new?

The refreshed compact SUV has new styling, redesigned wheels and more safety options. For the 2016 model year, the Equinox lineup loses the 1LT and 2LT trim levels to offer just the L, LS, LT and LTZ.

The Equinox now sports projector-beam headlamps on all versions for increased visibility, while a 7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen radio with Bluetooth connectivity and a rear-vision camera are standard for entry-level models.

Available safety features include blind side alert, rear traffic alert, forward collision alert and lane departure warning systems.

"The new face of the Equinox is highlighted by a more expressive execution of chrome accents and premium lighting," John Cafaro, executive director of design for Chevrolet, said in a statement. "The result is a modern exterior that's matched inside with premium features on all trim levels, complementing the Equinox's enhanced technology and functionality."

Can I buy it?

The 2016 Equinox goes on sale this fall.
