Tesla Model S Joins Biden's Motorcade in Brussels

Vice President Joe Biden, a car dealer's son and well-known auto enthusiast, had a Tesla Model S in his motorcade in Brussels on Friday, although he did not get to ride in the popular electric sedan.

The shiny black Tesla acted as a press vehicle, the Wall Street Journal reported. While the motorcade at first had only a Mercedes van to carry press, the Tesla came along when a reporter was left without a ride.

The supplier hired to provide transportation for the vice president's company sent the Tesla Model S, which was earlier used by staffers getting ready for Biden's trip to Brussels, sources familiar with the matter told the Journal.

"The Secret Service swept the car for bombs and it joined the rear of the motorcade as what U.S. officials acknowledged was the coolest 'Press 1' the world has ever known," the Journal reported.

Unfortunately for noted car fan Biden, the vice president likely wasn't aware that one of Elon Musk's buzzworthy models was part of his cavalcade.

"The rear of the entourage was well out of Mr. Biden's view. Which was probably a good thing for the reporter in the Tesla because otherwise the vice president might well have commandeered Press 1 for himself," the Journal said.
