Ford’s New Aluminum Ford F-150 is ‘Off to a Tremendous Start’

Ford's aluminum-bodied redesigned 2015 F-150 pickup reached a big milestone this week, as more than 1 million shoppers have built and priced F-150 configurations on the automaker's website.

"The all-new F-150 is off to a tremendous start," said Ford in a press statement.

A configurator allows interested shoppers select specific packages, accessories, calculate prices and select a color.

The truck is in such high demand Ford announced earlier this week that it would add 1,550 new jobs at its Kansas City Assembly, Dearborn Stamping, Dearborn Diversified and Sterling Axle plants in order to meet customer demand, according to a company statement.

Ford confirmed that the Kansas City Assembly and Dearborn Plant will have the capacity to make more than 700,000 trucks per year for at least 90 different markets around the globe.

Last month, the average F-150 stayed just 12 days on dealer lots, turning faster than any other Ford model available for purchase. The King Ranch F-150 and High-end Platinum are "turning even faster, averaging just 9 and 10 days on dealer lots, respectively," the Detroit automaker said in a statement.

In January, the Ford F-Series had its strongest sales month since 2004, posting sales gains of 17 percent, with 54,370 trucks sold.

"The new F-150 accounted for 18 percent of retail F-150 sales last month," said Erich Merkle, Ford's U.S. sales analyst in a recent online memo to Ford workers. "This is up from just over 5 percent of retail F-150 sales in December.  We have to be careful, though, because stocks will get pretty lean until we get Kansas City Truck changed over this quarter."

The much-discussed new F-150 is available for purchase now at your local Ford dealership. The pickup competes for sales against similar models like the Toyoda Tundra, Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500.
