Groundhog Day 2015: Six Cars to Survive an Anticipated Long Winter

Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow early this morning, upon the historic and eponymous occasion of Groundhog Day, signaling six more weeks of winter—but automotive enthusiasts need not fret.

In fact, we love the opportunity to drive in the winter, with ample time to test out the limits and capabilities of our cars for all seasons. We can't always trust the Groundhog's accuracy, but given the day's significance, we like to believe he at least has a hunch.

Stuck between a bus pass and a hard place? When hibernation isn't an option, here are six cars and trucks to help make the extra six weeks of winter feel less dreary.

(6) Chevrolet Colorado: Off-road capability meets modern technology, making the rough weather irrelevant. Plus, on warm days, the extended-length pickup bed doubles as a picnicking area.

(5) Tesla Model S P85D: Call it a 691-hp, AWD snowmobile, the dual-motor Tesla Model S sedan makes a lot of sense for winter-weather warriors with a green conscience.

(4) Audi RS7: All-wheel-drive Rocketsled.

(3) Range Rover HSE Td6: Diesel efficiency for those long road trips that last until spring. The only reason it didn't make first place was that the much-anticipated diesel engine is not yet available.

(2) Chevrolet SS: With a set of winter tires mounted, there isn't any winter landscape that the Chevy SS won't make more entertaining.

(1) Toyota Land Cruiser: Nothing beats old-fashioned go-anywhere capability sprinkled with modern amenities. Buy it for winter, enjoy it all year—and for years to come.
