Nissan Recalls 768,000 Vehicles for Wiring, Latching Problems

Nissan has announced two recall campaigns comprising 768,000 vehicles altogether, affecting the Rogue crossover and Pathfinder sport utility vehicle among other models.

No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the respective issues.

The first recall affects 552,135 Nissan Rogue crossovers from model years 2008-'13 with potential wiring issues, the Detroit News reported. The Rogues can experience an electrical short if moisture seeps through the floor on the driver's side, increasing the risk of fire. Of the recalled crossovers, 468,815 are in the United States.

"Dealers will inspect the kick panel wiring harness for damage," the News reported. "If no damage is found, dealers will install a new waterproof seal. If damage is found, dealers will also replace the harness connector."

In a separate campaign, 215,789 Pathfinder SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles are being recalled for hood latch issues, 170,665 of which are in registered in the U.S. Reported mostly in rental models, the problem involves the secondary hood latch, which is intended to prevent the hood from flying up but can fail and damage the vehicle.

The Pathfinder recall expands a Nissan campaign from September involving 220,423 Altima sedans from the 2013 model year that also had hood-latch issues. After a report in late 2014, Nissan began investigating potential problems in Pathfinder hood latches.

Around 52,000 Rogue crossovers will be recalled in Canada along with 15,972 Pathfinder and JX35 SUVs, according to Reuters. The Rogue recall will affect models in three more countries, while the SUV campaign will involve vehicles in 30 additional countries.
