The first new retail production Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction last week in Scottsdale, Arizona for $800,000.
Chevy dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick was the winning bidder, according to a United Way of Southeastern Michigan press release.
The black and white Z06 was donated to the auction by General Motors and 100 percent of the sale price will be given to support the United Way of Southeastern Michigan.
A second vehicle, a 2015 Cadillac CTS-V sedan, was donated by GM as well. The car went for $170,000, which will be given to Detroit's College for Creative Studies.
GM President Ammann thanked Hendrick for his ongoing and "generous" support of a number of different charities selected for financial assistance from the automaker, like United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
"We are grateful to Rick and so many others who support our fundraising efforts. They are helping us make a real difference in the lives of so many people," said General Motors President Dan Ammann, according to the release.

Hendrick is a big Corvette collector and preservationist. His large collection include the first 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe, which he paid $1.05 million for back in 2013, the first 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, which he paid $1 million for and the first 2015 Corvette Z06 Coupe, for which he paid $1 million for last year at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida.
GM's supported charities are the real winners of the auction however, receiving 100% of the auction prices on all four vehicles, for a total of $3.85 million.
"Thanks to General Motors and the generous supporters of the Barrett-Jackson auction, United Way will use these funds to advance its work in the interconnected areas of basic needs, such as food and shelter, education and financial stability for individuals and families in need throughout the region," said United Way President and CEO, Michael J. Brennan.
Brennan thanked General Motors and Ammann, for its commitment to Detroit and its communities.
