2015 Ford Expedition Earns Top Five-Star Safety Rating From NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed Friday that the refreshed 2015 Ford Expedition earned the top five-star safety rating.

The Expedition, which now features a 365-hp turbocharged V-6 instead of a V-8, earned the rating thanks in part to standard safety systems like AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, a post-crash alert System and side curtain air bags.

"The 2015 Expedition now has driver-assist technology features that are new to the nameplate," said Steve Kenner, director, Ford Global Automotive Safety Office, in a statement. "These technology upgrades make Expedition the full-size utility vehicle for customers who want capability, style and modern conveniences."

The latest Expedition earned five stars in every NHTSA test except rollover, where the rear-wheel-drive vehicles scored three stars and the four-wheel-drive models scored four, according to NHTSA.

By comparison, the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2015 Nissan Armada and the 2015 Toyota Sequoia have not been rated yet by NHTSA.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn't rated the 2015 Expedition yet.
