Kia Challenges Fans to Virtual Stare-Down Against Blake Griffin

Kia has released two new Blake Griffin campaigns which allow fans to have a virtual stare-down with the four-time NBA All-Star.

The "Blink Griffin" promotions puts fans against one of two opponents: Griffin as a fighter pilot or decked out in cowboy gear. These are two of the characters he plays in the new Optima TV spots.

"Howdy," says Griffin in the cowboy version. "You hankering for a staring showdown?"

Click here to play against either "The Sheriff' or "Mountain Lion" now.

Users are then told to set up their webcam and play against the Slam Dunk Champ for a spot on the leaderboard.

The site is designed to recognize and respond to all blinks, similar to Virgin Mobile's "Blinkwashing" campaign from 2013.

Even though Kia isn't the first to use blinking technology, the staring game does work well with the new TV ads. Two more spots will debut in the next couple of weeks, according to Kia.

The Optima competes for sales against rivals of its own like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion.

Feel free to leave a comment to tell us what you think of the promotion, if it's a good idea or even if you've gone up against Blake in a staring contest.
