5 Car Features You'll Want for This Winter

Preparing your vehicle for winter means packing extra supplies just in case you get snowbound and double-checking the tires. But as cars become increasingly sophisticated, more offer snazzy features that are already equipped for winter chill. If you live in a cold area or want a more indulgent ride, watch for these options next time you purchase a new vehicle.

Heated Steering Wheel

It might seem like a superfluous feature, but if you're traveling in cold weather, being able to drive without wearing gloves is worth checking out.

Heated steering wheels are available in a range of models including the 2014 Cadillac CTS, the 2014 Ram 1500, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 and the 2014 Buick Encore.

Heated Rear Seats

This option will definitely make for happier passengers and maybe fewer queries of "Are we there yet?" from the back row. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, the 2014 Hyundai Elantra and the 2014 Toyota Avalon all offer this feature.

Headlight Washer

A headlight washer system uses an electric rotary pump to spray fluid onto the headlight glass to clean it after driving through snow and mud. This option can be found on many Mini Cooper models, including the Roadster and Clubman, as well as the 2014 Porsche Boxter Convertible, 2014 Audi A4 and 2014 Volvo S60.

Heated Side Mirrors

Similar to a defroster that clears up an icy windshield, heated side mirrors keep glass from being covered over with fog and ice. The feature is included for most modern vehicles, such as the 2014 GMC Acadia and 2014 Honda Accord, according to Edmunds.

Windshield Wiper De-Icers

While a warm steering wheel is an extra, working windshield wipers are absolutely necessary especially if you're driving in icy weather. A windshield wiper de-icer keeps your wipers from getting stuck to the windshield when snow, icy rain and other wintry elements are raining down. This desirable option can be found on the 2014 Subaru Forester and 2014 Toyota 4Runner.
