Road Trip: Ski Fans Should Download This App

Thinking of taking a road trip this weekend? Now that winter is in full swing, a trek out to a ski resort might be just the ticket.

After making sure your car is winter-ready, download the free Liftopia app to save on lift tickets and check snow conditions on nearby resorts.

The app purportedly works with ski resorts to get exclusive prices, offering discount lift tickets at "hundreds" of skiing spots. It also holds information on ski conditions, including ski and snow reports; resort amenities; and terrain details.

Liftopedia works with a phone's GPS to show the closest ski areas and deals and to offer driving directions based on location.

Serious ski bunnies can also try the Powder Alert app for $1.99. Users can find their favorite ski resorts and specify the amount of snow they're willing to wake up early for--e.g., at least 10 inches of snow at a certain resort on Saturday warrants a 6 a.m. wakeup call.

The app, which works with more than 500 resorts in the United States and Canada, tracks the snow while you sleep and only wakes you up early if the conditions are right for hitting the slopes.

And if you're going to be on the road in the snow, make sure to download the Road Trip Weather app, which alerts you to potentially dangerous driving situations and optimizes your time on the road with the best travel plan.
