Six Sleighs for Santa

As Santa Claus completes his appointed yearly rounds, we couldn't help but wonder if the man in red wouldn't benefit from a slightly updated mode of transportation.

The iconic sleigh has visual impact, sure, although it lacks doors, a roof, and any semblance of a windscreen. That can't be too comfortable for the man entrusted with on-time deliveries of gifts for family and friends. And come on: isn't using a sleigh so last season?

These six new sleigh options for Santa should convince the reindeer to take a season off:

6. Volkswagen Golf R: Winter enthusiast Santa will appreciate the 292-hp Golf's 4Motion all-wheel drive, and his driving enthusiast alter ego will be delighted by its anticipated superb on-road performance.

5. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4X4: Dasher, Prancer, and the rest of the gang have the footing of newly born deer, compared to the sure-footedness of the Sprinter 4X4. Santa will be able to scale mountains and make a last-minute run to the toy outlets in this able van.

4. Porsche Macan Turbo: Much more than a re-gifted Volkswagen Tiguan, the Macan is the best kind of gift: the one that impresses friends and family by over-delivering on luxury, performance, and cachet.

3. Tesla Model S: The Model S is perfect for the man who consistently makes quiet chimney entrances and a series of French exits. The only limiting factor for Santa is the Model S' restricted range of less than 300 miles per sleigh run. For extra grip, the upcoming P85D dual-motor model will put a smile on Santa's face.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8: For the moments when St. Nick needs traction and track-capable performance, this 470-hp Grand Cherokee is a true hauler. It's the closest thing to a Dodge Challenger Hellcat with all-wheel drive that the elves can pre-order.

1. Jaguar F-type Coupe R AWD: The F-type Coupe R is the gift that keeps on giving, owing to stunning good looks, an unmatched powertrain, and—for 2015—the addition of all-wheel drive. Toss some snow tires on this cat's paws, and the 550-hp F-type Coupe R is a virtually unstoppable sleigh, with room for all (erm, most of) the toys on Santa's list.
