Honda and its two joint ventures in China will recall approximately 569,769 cars over potentially defective air bags which the automaker said were made by Takata.
Since 2008, Nearly 20 million vehicles have been recalled around the globe by different automakers for defective Takata inflators.
The faulty inflators have been linked to five deaths so far and Honda, which is Takata's biggest customer, has recalled 13.4 million vehicles, mainly in the United States, according to Reuters.
The joint venture between Honda and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., GAC-Honda, announced on Tuesday a recall of 527,136 Accord cars made between May 17, 2002 and Dec. 25, 2007 over defective air bags on the driver's side, China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement on its website.
A Beijing-based Honda spokesman said that the recalls were due to "potentially defective" air bags made by Takata, according to Reuters.
He added no injuries or malfunctions have been reported so far in the country.
China's quality watchdog didn't specify the make of the airbags.
GAC-Honda also announced that it will recall 16,505 Fit Saloon cars manufactured between Oct. 30, 2002 and Dec. 30, 2003, AQSIQ said.
The joint venture between Honda and Dongfeng Motor Group Co, Dongfeng-Honda, will recall 26,128 Elysion MPVs manufactured between June 4, 2012 and June 17, 2014 over defective air bags on the driver's side.
The Dongfeng-Honda recall will start on Feb. 28, 2015. Recalls were due to airbags that could cause "shell fragments to fly".
"This may hurt passengers in the car and there are risks to safety," the regulator said, according to Reuters.
Regulators ordered Takata last month to move forward with a nationwide expansion of the regional recall. Takata has refused so far, putting the onus for voluntary recalls on the automakers.
Mazda announced earlier this week that it would recall 330,000 vehicles in the U.S. for driver-side Takata air bags.
