Nintendo and Sony are reportedly working on an animated Super Mario Bros. movie, according to the ongoing massive leak of emails from the studio.

Though nothing is set in stone officially, emails released suggest that film produce Avi Arad acquired the right to produce animated films based on the hit game, as of Oct. 23.

"I am the proud father of mario the animated film" said Arad in an e-mail to Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal.

Arad then forwarded Pascal photos of him with Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata. Those emails were then forwarded to Tom Rothman, chairman of the Sony-owned TriStar Pictures, and added that "Avi closed Mario brothers, animated."

Emails include Arad thanking Michelle Raimo Kouyate, the President of Production at Sony Pictures Animation, for a gift basket filled with Mario merchandise, with replies from Koutate of wanting to "build a Mario empire!" and that she "can think of 3-4 movies right out of the gate on this. So huge!"

There's talks of bringing in Genndy Tartakovsky as director of the film. Tartakovsky created cartoons like Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack.

So far Tartakovsky has denied any involvement in the project. He also directed "Hotel Transylvania" in 2012 for Sony Pictures.

Sony Pictures and Nintendo have not commented yet regarding the leaked emails or a supposed Mario Bros. movie. Arad has denied the deal, saying that current negotiations are "just the beginning."

As you might know, Sony closed its doors to Hollywood after the disappointing live Super Mario Bros. film in 1993. The film featured Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi.

Sony Pictures was hacked few weeks ago, and a large amount data were reportedly stolen from the company's computer network. Since then, several of its contents have been leaked online like emails between film executives that contain harsh remarks to celebrities and well-known personalities.
