Mercedes-Benz CLA Gets Price Hike to $31,500

Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz has passed $30,000, not including shipping fees, following strong sales for the luxury model that launched in September 2013.

The base 2015 CLA250 costs $32,425 with shipping fees, a 5 percent increase from its original starting cost of $29,900, Automotive News reported.

The awd version also got a 5 percent price hike to $34,425 with shipping, while the CLA45 AMG's starting price rose 2 percent to $49,425, including destination fees.

A popular title ever since it launched, the CLA sold 24,701 in the United States through November and has tested the plant's production limits. More cars are coming next year, Mercedes executives have said.

"High demand for the CLA has put Mercedes in a position where they likely feel confident that they can raise prices on the model without negatively affecting sales," Alex Bernstein, a pricing analyst for CarsDirect.com, said in a statement quoted by Automotive News. "It will be interesting to see how the automaker continues the CLA's momentum through 2015 despite new entrants in the segment like the Audi A3."

The price hike is not accompanied by any new equipment or updated features.

The luxury sedan features standard 17-inch alloy wheels, and the CLA250 runs on a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, according to Edmunds.com.

Back in the spring, Mercedes-Benz advertised the CLA class with a playful commercial showing cats sliding along the car's sleek exterior.
