Facebook Update Lets You Name-Search Old Posts

Facebook is rolling out an update that will let users search within their old posts to find particular memories.

Similar to Twitter's search capability, which lets users hunt for old tweets by combining specific handles with words or phrases, the Facebook update allows users to find old posts by searching with names and details.

"With a quick search, you can get back to a fun video from your graduation, a news article you've been meaning to read, or photos from your friend's wedding last summer," Tom Stocky, Facebook's vice president of search, said in a company statement.

The social networking site has assured users that their posts will remain on designated privacy settings even though they can now be searched in greater detail.

"Your search results are personalized and unique to you and, as always, you can only see things that have been shared with you," Stocky wrote.

The latest update is launching this week for Facebook's iOS and desktop versions.

In other Facebook news, CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently met with Lu Wei, minister of the Cyberspace Administration of China, along with Apple chief Tim Cook. The meeting took place when the Chinese minister visited the U.S. and was reported by state-backed China.com.cn, according to Bloomberg News.

China's censors have been blocking Facebook since 2009, but the social network is reportedly looking to sell ads to companies through a Hong Kong office.
