Chevrolet is sending out its brand-new 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe from its Bowling Green Assembly, the automaker announced late on Monday.
Some lucky customers could receive the highly-anticipated Vette later this week, GM said in a company release.
"It has been an incredible opportunity to work on Chevy's most capable model," said Jeff Lamarche, plant manager of General Motors' Bowling Green Assembly plant, according to the release. "It truly is an amazing car, and we're thrilled to get them into the hands of our eager customers."
The new Z06 comes equipped with the most choices for customers in the model's history. Chevy designed the new Corvette to be the first Z06 to offer an available eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and a removable roof panel, thanks to a stronger aluminum frame.
It is the first time since 1963 that the Z06 will be available to customers as a convertible, which will reach customers sometime in early 2015.
The LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine has been SAE-certified at 650 horsepower, 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm, which makes the new Corvette Z06 the most powerful production car ever released by General Motors and one of the most powerful production cars ever available in the U.S.
In order to "balance" efficiency and performance, the LT4 comes with a trio of advanced technologies: Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation), continuously variable valve timing and direct injection with a more efficient supercharger, according to GM.
The Z06 can accelerate from a rest to 60 mph in just 2.95 seconds when equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission. It achieves 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with the standard seven-speed manual transmission.
When it comes to braking, the Z06 is capable of stop from 60 mph in just 99.6 feet, according to the automaker.
Chevy's 2015 Corvette Z06 starts at $78,995 including a destination fee, while the convertible model will be available for a base price of $83,995.
