2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Fuel Economy Numbers Released

The top-of-the-line 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupe with an 8-speed automatic transmission is capable of returning 13 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway, according to new fuel economy numbers released by the EPA.

Interested customers have been waiting anxiously for the EPA numbers since this is the first Corvette Z06 to come available with a supercharged engine.

Chevy's new Corvette Z06, which was recently named General Motor's fastest car of all time, is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, according to General Motors.

Though the 8-speed automatic transmission option of the Corvette Z06 is subject to a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax, company spokesman Monte Doran tried to put a positive spin on the EPA estimates in an interview with Edmunds.

"It is one of the most fuel-efficient 650-hp cars you can get," Doran said.

In comparison, Chevrolet's 2015 Corvette Z06 with a 6.2-liter V8 engine and 7-speed manual transmission delivers 17 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

The 2015 Dodge Viper SRT coupe with an 8.4-liter V10 engine and six-speed manual transmission returns 21 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway, according to EPA estimates.

Doran said during the interview that the 2015 option is not subject to the gas-guzzler tax.

Chevrolet's updated Z06 comes at a time when gas prices have dropped below $3 a gallon. The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. is at $2.77 compared to $3.28 a year ago, according to today's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is on sale at Chevy dealerships now.
