2014 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2016 Fiat 500X

The latest addition to the Fiat lineup, the 2016 Fiat 500X, will be on hand this week at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

What is it?

The 2016 Fiat 500X combines a unique Italian design, advanced drive systems and up to 70 safety and security features.

Fiat confirmed this week that the vehicle will be available in five different trim levels: Pop, Easy, Lounge, Trekking and Trekking Plus. Those looking for a more rugged look should consider the Trekking and Trekking Plus models, which feature adventurous front and rear fascia designs, and satin silver accents.

Design elements like the double headlamps, the rounded clamshell hood and signature "whiskers and logo" face were all added to the new model in order to pay homage to the original Cinquecento, according to BMW.

With the new Fiat 500X, drivers can expect an exciting ride, the latest safety features and room to seat at least five people.

What's new or changed?

Designers created the all-new Fiat 500X at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy, where they leveraged "character and iconic features" of the Fiat 500 into a more "mature" package, according to the automaker.

The base Fiat 500X will be equipped with the fuel-efficient 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine matted with a six-speed manual transmission. Customers can expect an output of 160 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque.

All-wheel-drive and front-wheel drive models come with the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine which produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque, and is paired exclusively to a nine-speed automatic transmission, according to BMW.

A disconnecting rear axle provides reduced parasitic loss when all-wheel-drive capability isn't needed, which improves fuel efficiency.

The Fiat 500X's Dynamic Selector system lets drivers choose from three modes (Auto, Sport and Traction +) in order to handle different types of driving conditions.

For the 2016 model, the Fiat 500X comes with 70 standard and available safety and security features, like Blind-spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Cross Path detection and LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus.

Seven air bags, electronic roll mitigation and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard on all new Fiat 500X models.

Available features like heated front seats and steering wheel, Uconnect 6.5 radio with a 6.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen and navigation, Bluetooth streaming audio, Uconnect Access Via Mobile and Keyless Enter-N-Go have all been confirmed.

Can I buy it?

Not yet. The all-new Fiat 500X will reach Fiat studios in North America during the first half of 2015. It will go on sale in more than 100 countries worldwide next year.
