2014 Los Angeles Auto Show: Volvo XC90 SUV Offers New Luxury

The redesigned 2016 Volvo XC90 making its U.S. debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show offers a touchscreen control system, a highly anticipated four-cylinder engine and a newly luxurious interior.

What is it?

The seven-seat sport utility vehicle exemplifies the next chapter for the Swedish automaker, implementing both a new design direction and technological advances.

The SUV is available with a range of two-liter, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains, including the top-of-the-line XC90 twin engine, which combines a supercharged and turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor to generate around 400 horsepower. All engine versions are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder engine options replace the current XC90's thirsty V-8, while the updated XC90 has 25 miles of range on pure battery.

What is changed? Everything.

The updated XC90, which was unveiled earlier this year in Sweden, features an all-new chassis, front and rear; it can be equipped with electronically controlled air suspension. Replacing the once-iconic wagon, the XC90 will be the largest model offered by Volvo.

Can I buy it?

The limited-series XC90 First Edition was the first Volvo model to be sold exclusively online, and all 1,927 went like gangbusters. For those who didn't make it in time, the new XC90 is expected to arrive at dealerships in the spring.

Auto World News is in Los Angeles covering the auto show. Check back throughout the week for updates on the latest debuts and concept cars.
