Former Hyundai CEO: Fiat and VW Could Be a "Brilliant Combination"

At a meeting yesterday of the Automotive Press Assocation, former Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik offered a startling revelation: A conglomerate of Fiat-Chrysler and Volkswagen just might make a lot of sense for the market.

According to Automotive News, Krafcik—now president of car-buying website TrueCar—conceived of the idea as an "academic exercise," but hypothesized in front of the crowd about the possibilities.

"This is an absolutely brilliant combination," Krafcik said.

Krafcik is no stranger to making news. After a stint at Ford, he joined Hyundai Motor America and led record sales growth while straddling the corporate responsbility for overstating fuel economy claims. His remarks come amid weeks of surprising news for Fiat-Chrysler, including and a planned spin-off of Ferrari.
