Walgreens has supposedly sent out an internal corporate memo asking employees to prepare for the launch of the iPhone 6-based Apple Pay service on Oct. 18.
The letter sent to Walgreens store managers was published Sat. by MacRumors, and refers to "the launch of Apple Pay on October 18."
The memo doesn't say if Apple plans to launch its payments service across the U.S. on the same day or if the largest pharmacy chain in the U.S. is planning a coordinated rollout for that Saturday.
Two days before that, Apple will hold a keynote presentation where it will likely unveil its next-generation iPad possibly other new hardware. The company also might reveal more information on the release of iOS 8.1, which will most likely enable Apple Pay functionality for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The supposed memo mentions to store managers that Apple Pay is "easy, secure and ensures their privacy." It also says that users will "only need to tap their iPhone 6 to the upper portion of the pinpad to pay for their purchase."
Walgreens is a good partner for Apple, since it's the largest drug retailing chain in the U.S. The company operates in more than 8,000 stores in all 50 states.
Companies like Walgreens will be able to support Apple Pay without any issues, since Apple's payment system counts on established near-field communications technology that is already widely used for other mobile payment services, according to MacRumors.
ApplePay brings the iPhone 6 Touch ID fingerprint scanner however, which improves the security for authorizing transactions.
Apple has said it will launched Apple Pay sometime in October, but didn't give a specific launch date. The near-field communications technology required to allow Apple Pay is only found in the company's latest iPhone 6 devices, which were released back in September.
