Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus went up for preorder in China Friday morning and reports say the country's three wireless carriers accepted one million orders in the first six hours of availability.

The preliminary numbers were released from China's biggest telecoms: China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, according to Tencent News.

It isn't clear if the one million unit figure includes orders placed through the Chinese Online Apple Store, which also allowed people to preorder the devices.

The publication says that around 6.5 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models are bound for China Mobile, which would be more than 50 percent of all supply entering the country on launch day.

China Mobile uses a unique TD-LTE network that requires custom communications hardware.

Apple has demarcated iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets supporting China Mobile's LTE as model numbers A1589 and A1593, respectively.

Before today's preorder launch, Chinese telcos and third-party resellers were taking reservations for new iPhone devices, according to Fortune, citing inside sources.

Website JingDong registered more than 9 million reservations as of 8:30 p.m. local China time. As of press time, customer "appointments" showed a split of 4,626,516 for the iPhone 6 and 4,782,051 iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPhone 6 is already off to a record-breaking start, as first weekend sales reached 10 million units in September. The number is expected to grow as the company completes its fastest ever rollout to around 115 countries by the end of 2014.

In-store iPhone 6 sales in China will take place on Oct. 17, according to Apple.

The iPhone 6 is available in gold, silver and gray with a suggested retail price of 5,288 yuan ($860.16) for the cheapest model with 16GB of storage.

The iPhone 6 Plus, in the same colors, is 6,088 yuan ($990.29) for the cheapest model, also with 16GB of storage. The most expensive iPhone 6 Plus with 128GB storage is  7,788 yuan ($1,266.82).
