The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has confirmed it has opened an investigation into an approximately 363,000 2008 Honda Accord vehicles after receiving over 20 consumer complaints about the side airbag deployment.

The NHTSA said in a statement that it "has identified 28 complaints alleging inadvertent deployment of the side airbags on model year 2008 Honda Accord vehicles."

Complaints received by the NHTSA claims that the airbags deployed when the driver or passenger door was closed.

At least two people have been injured due to the allegedly issue.

A "preliminary evaluation" has been opened by the NHTSA, which can eventually result in a vehicle recall.

" Honda is aware that the NHTSA has initiated a preliminary evaluation based on a small number of complaints regarding the side airbags and side curtain airbags on certain 2008 Accord models," said Chris Martin, a Honda spokesman, in an email, according to Edmunds. "Honda will cooperate with the NHTSA through the investigation process, and will continue our own internal review of the available information."

The 2008 Accord has not been recalled yet however.

Honda has been cooperating with the NHTSA so far, according to Edmunds.
