GM Recall: 1.5 Million Cars Could Contain Faulty Fuel Pump Brackets

General Motors and its main Chinese associate are recalling 1.46 million vehicles over defected fuel pump brackets, according to Reuters.

China's product quality agency said the recall involved 1.2 million Buick Excelles produced from 2006 through 2012. Over 250,000 Chevrolet Sails produced from April 2009 through October 2011 are also involved.

Some of the Sails were made in 2012 as well, according to Reuters.

Dealers will be instructed to replace the bracket as it might crack, and there is a chance it can cause a fuel leak, according to a statement made by the Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

"There are so many recalls these days, and some automakers call back products proactively more as a precaution," Yale Zhang, head of Shanghai-based consulting firm Automotive Foresight said, according to Reuters. "In this case, the recall shouldn't affect GM's reputation in China that much."

Almost 30 percent of GM's global net income came from its China affiliates in 2012.

At least 2.89 million vehicles were sold in China from January through November 2013. Sales have increased 11.4 percent compared to the same time last year.

Likewise, Ford has sold 840,975 vehicles in China, according to Reuters.

This is the second GM recall during 2013 in China. Back in May, 2,653 Cadillac SRX sport utility vehicles are called back to fix nuts on the wheels that could come lose, according to the Associated Press.
