Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the company will not be recalling its Model S electric vehicle despite three vehicle fires taking place in under two months, according to Reuters.
Musk confirmed the news while speaking at a New York Times DealBook conference, which aired on CNBC. He said that the media coverage of the fires has been "misleading" and stressed that no injuries have occurred as a result of the fires.
The third fire occurred earlier this month in Tennessee. Previous incidents took place in Seattle and Mexico.
Videos of all three incidents have not only gone viral but have also affected the electric automaker's stock price.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been working with Tesla and Tennessee police to collect as much information as possible about the fire to determine if "additional action" is required, according to Reuters.
It's been a rough couple of months for the automaker in general, as Oscar-winner George Clooney was quoted in Esquire magazine saying he had a bad experience owning a Roadster.
"I had a Tesla. I was one of the first cats with a Tesla. I think I was, like, number five on the list," Clooney he said to Esquire when the writer asked why he was driving a Lexus. "But I'm telling you, I've been on the side of the road a while in that thing. And I said to them, 'Look, guys, why am I always stuck on the side of the (expletive) road? Make it work, one way or another.' "
