Hyundai is expanding its recall of Genesis sedans in the U.S. to address a potential brake issue.

The automaker said this week that it was expanding the recall of its large sedans to cover an additional 16,000 vehicles built in March 2012, raising the total affected to 43,500 cars.

The recall includes vehicles released for the 2009 to 2012 model years, according to Reuters.

In October, Hyundai recalled approximately 27,500 Genesis sedans in the U.S. to replace the brake fluid. At least 103,214 models in South Korea were affected as well.

Owners will be sent letters to bring their cars to their nearest Hyundai dealership for brake inspections and changing of the brake fluid with "replacement fluid containing an anticorrosive additive," Hyundai said.

All repairs will be completed free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin sometime in December, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

At least 23 customer complaints have been received by the NHTSA so far.

At least one crash has occurred as a result of the issue. A driver in Florida hit a stopped vehicle while another had to use the emergency brake to stop, sending the vehicle into a spin at a red light.
