Google has recently released a beta version of the new Android Nougat 7.1.2 available to everyone with an eligible device in the public Android Beta Program. For the first time, this will include Google's own Pixel and Pixel XL phones which are shipped with 7.1.

The 7.1.2 is scheduled for a public release in a couple of months. Dave Burke, VP of Engineering at Google, mentioned via blog post that the Android 7.1.2 is an incremental maintenance release that it focused on refinements. It will include several bugfixes, optimizations as well as a few enhancements for users.

Other devices that are eligible for the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update are Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C devices. In addition, Google also said that it's now developing an update for the Nexus 6P and will soon be released.

Meanwhile, since the update will be available to the public, users who will be interested in trying the Android 7.1.2 beta can simply do so by just signing in to Android Beta Program. Users will be able to receive the public beta update over-the-air, once they've registered their tablet or Android phone.

"If you have an eligible device that's already enrolled, you're all set - your device will get the public beta update in the next few days and no action is needed on your part," Burke said. Unfortunately, Nexus 6 handsets and Nexus 9 tablet will not be receiving the update.

Furthermore, Google has promised that Nexus level devices will be receiving major updates for at least two years. Huawei and LG Nexus devices should be all good for the rest of the year.

For all eligible devices, users can simply visit Google's Android Beta Program website. Users can log in using their Google account, and they'll be taken to a page where users will see all the information about the program. However, Google warned that the said updates might have errors and defects that can affect the normal functioning of the device.
