2015 Chevrolet Silverado, Chrysler 200 Help Drive Strong Sept. Sales

Sales of the 2015 Chrysler 200, Nissan Rogue, and Chevrolet Silverado helped to drive Chrysler, Nissan and to 19 percent sales increases in September.

Though Ford sales declined 3 percent, the automaker said the Ford Fusion posted its best September ever, according to Reuters.

"Fusion is selling strong, with five straight months of record performance," said John Felice, Ford vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, in a press statement.

GM's truck month couldn't have happened at a better time.

"With Ford F-150 production on the shelf, GM had an easier path to showcase Silverado to truck shoppers," said Jessica Caldwell, an Edmunds senior analyst in a press statement. "And with truck and SUV sales still chugging along at an eye-opening pace, GM has every reason to feel good about how it closed out the quarter."

Ford is expected to rebound though with the launch of the redesigned 2015 F-150, which is set to arrive at dealerships before the end of 2014, according to Reuters.

GM meanwhile is looking to stay the course.

"We will have improved availability of heavy-duty pickups and large SUVs in the months ahead and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are arriving in showrooms as we speak," said Kurt McNeil, GM's U.S. vice president of sales operations, in a press statement.

Chrysler credited "continued consumer demand" for its robust results.

Jeep sales increased 47 percent, posting the brand's best September ever. The Jeep Wrangler Compass and Patriot logged record-breaking performances.

Nissan confirmed that Murano sales were up 50 percent and Rogue sales set a September record. The automaker is preparing for the launch of the redesigned 2015 Murano.

"Auto sales remained strong in September and rounded out an excellent third quarter, the best for the industry since 2006," said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager, in a statement. "SUVs and crossovers continue to be the industry's hot spots, and RAV4 and 4Runner both saw double-digits gains."
