Bob Seger released a cover of John Hiatt's "Detroit Made" on Thursday for radio ahead of his upcoming album, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Produced and recorded in Nashville, the track is Seger's first new song since the previously unreleased tracks that were included on his 2011 compilation of "Ultimate Hits."
The cover has been released to coincide with the Woodward Dream Cruise, a car event held each year in the Detroit suburbs, according to Billboard. The new track has already been put into rotation on local Detroit radio stations.
"I stumbled on 'Detroit Made' on [SiriusXM] Outlaw Country," Seger told Billboard during a tour last year. "I downloaded it, and that's a great [show] opener for us. My initial plan was to have Kid Rock do it with me, but he was just so busy with the start of his tour that we weren't able to do it. I thought it would be great."
More details about the new Seger album have not yet been announced, but the rumor is that it will be released this fall. Seger introduced two other new songs during the 2013 tour: "All of the Roads" and another cover, the Wilco/Billy Bragg/Woody Guthrie song "California Stars."
The Woodward Dream Cruise is expected to feature 30,000 classic cars in its 20th anniversary year, the Free Press reported.
