Nissan Introduces 2014 Rogue Virtual Test-Drive

Nissan has introduced a new way to test drive its redesigned 2014 Nissan Rogue crossover thanks to what they've called "The Detour," program.

The Detour test-drive program is available online now.

The Detour also instructs users on how to schedule a real test-drive at their local Nissan dealership.

Those who access the program can chose from a number of pre-programmed routes, like those in New York City and San Francisco, or by just typing in an address.

"Recent studies show that new-car buyers today spend nearly twice as much time researching their purchases online than at dealerships, more clicking than kicking tires, so to speak," said Jon Brancheau, vice president of Nissan North America marketing communications & media, in a statement, according to the automaker. "So why not bring the two together with an information and enjoyable test-drive in buyers' own neighborhoods?"

The Nissan Rogue competes in the same segment as similar vehicles like the 2014 Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Tucson.

Nissan said they thought up the idea in order to "create a custom test-drive experience starting from anywhere around the world."

The Detour works by using Google Maps, Google Street View, and Google Satellite API, along with digital effects, according to the automaker.
