Spotify has eliminated time limits for members who are using the music streaming service for free.
Users who didn't subscribe to Spotify's premium service were previously restricted with time caps after listening for several hours, USA TODAY reported.
"In the past, we had to restrict your listening time to some hours a month once a 6-month unlimited grace period had passed," Spotify said in a statement quoted by USA TODAY. "But now...there's no more time limit if you are using Spotify for free. We have removed these caps completely across all platforms--you can listen to your favorite songs as many times as you like, for as long as you want."
Premium subscriptions cost $9.99 a month. Spotify has 24 million active users, 6 million of which are premium members, according to the company's website.
The music streaming service, which plays commercials every few songs for non-paying users, has more than 20 million tracks available and adds around 20,000 songs a day.
Spotify has had other recent changes, including offering shuffle play for free on Apple devices starting in December.
Apple device users can listen to Spotify's music library for free while using the official app for IOS. iPhone and iPad owners can access "shuffle play" by selecting an artist and playing the singer's entire catalog on shuffle, AppleInsider reported.
"The world has changed a lot since we launched," Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek told The New York Times in December. "More than half of all users are now signing up straight to mobile, and there is a huge correlation between playing on mobile and getting people to convert."
Spotify also recently announced that songs from classic rock band Led Zeppelin will be available for streaming. In the exclusive deal, the digital holdouts are allowing their music to be played through Spotify after earlier refusing to license their music to streaming services.
