An auto fan has completed the ultimate do-it-yourself project by building his own McLaren F1, a beloved vehicle that normally sells in the millions.
Jacek Mazur, 48, from Poland built his for just $37,000, documenting the process on his YouTube channel, Yahoo! Autos reported.
Only 106 McLaren F1s have ever been built, and a 1997 model recently sold for $8.47 million. The 618-horsepower vehicle is a mark of status among billionaires and a "dream car" for the every man, according to Yahoo.
Using whatever parts and scraps he could obtain, Mazur built his own McLaren F1 for $37,000, a project that took years to complete. While it won't hit the 241 mph of the original, Mazur's version boasts an impressive 200 mph maximum.
An amateur mechanic, Mazur is a self-titled "Top Gear" fanatic who has built many supercars in the last 20 years. Other vehicles Mazur constructed include a Porsche 911, Lamborghini Countach and a Ferrari Testarossa based on a Pontiac Fiero.
Altogether, Mazur has completed three F1 replicas, one of which features an Audi V-8 engine, while another holds the 600-horsepower BMW V-12.
In the intricate process, Mazur welds the car's entire chassis by hand, building the seats and its fiberglass shell. Building the supercar F1 took four years and 63 YouTube videos.
"The McLaren was such a great car that when I saw it the first time I decided to build it," Jacek said in a video. "Many people will literally stop and stare and take a proper look at it. It shows me that I made a proper car. Even if it's just a replica, it looks like the real deal."
