Volkswagen Recall: 2009-'11 Tiguan Called Back Over Faulty Exterior Lights

Volkswagen is recalling 62,155 2009-'11 Volkswagen Tiguan SUVs over a fuse problem that could cause a partial loss of exterior lighting, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Due to a problem with the fuse for the exterior lights, the holder for the fuse that controls the vehicle's exterior lights circuit may melt," said NHTSA regarding the issue. "If the holder melts, there may be a partial loss of exterior lighting.

The affected SUVs were built from July 2007 through June 2011. The recall will begin sometime later this month.

Reduced vehicle illumination reduces the vehicle's visibility, thus increasing the risk of a crash.

"No report of open fire or severe component overheating was reported to Volkswagen," the company said in a statement.

Volkswagen dealers are being instructed to replace the fuse with a new hard-coated option.
