Britney Spears has arrived in Vegas to prepare for her two-year residency show at the Strip hotel, which will kick off Dec. 27, PEOPLE reported.

Around 1,000 people reportedly gathered outside the Planet Hollywood resort to welcome the pop star, who celebrated her 32nd birthday this week.

In a sneak peek at the "Piece of Me" show, 10 dancers performed outside the hotel, where giant pink letters with Spears' first name decorated the casino steps.

Arriving in a restored 1958 Chevy Impala convertible, Spears wore a black cocktail dress, posed for photos and signed some autographs.

"This is my city now," she told the crowd, "so I can't wait to see you guys opening night."

Spears has pushed herself in rehearsals for the show, telling Vegas Player Magazine, "I have not been this sore in my entire life. When I started working out, I was sore for like, three days. I could hardly move. I'm really challenging myself with the choreography."

According to PEOPLE's reports, the Vegas show will have the feel of a night club and high energy. Spears also plans to incorporate some of her iconic looks into the show.

"Whenever I do a show, I'm really keen on making it a show. I love to dance and perform," she told the magazine. "Because it's Vegas, I want to do something different. This is the perfect place to bring it to the next level."

Spears recently released her "most personal" album to date, "Britney Jean."

MTV called the new record "a markedly mature departure, an album made for both the dance floor and the diary ... one that her fans have already responded to with their usual fervor."

So far, "Britney Jean", Spears' eighth album, has spawned singles "Work B****" and "Perfume."
